How to read it
- Under 10% is where the highest scores live; under 30% is the widely cited guideline (CFPB).
- Both overall and per-card utilization matter — one maxed card hurts even when the total is low, so pay the highest-percentage card first.
- Utilization has no memory: scores use the balances currently reported, so paying down before the statement closes can move things within a cycle or two.
