Overall utilization

How to read it

  • Under 10% is where the highest scores live; under 30% is the widely cited guideline (CFPB).
  • Both overall and per-card utilization matter — one maxed card hurts even when the total is low, so pay the highest-percentage card first.
  • Utilization has no memory: scores use the balances currently reported, so paying down before the statement closes can move things within a cycle or two.

General information, not financial advice. Scoring models weigh utilization differently; results vary.
